چکیده

"If all the country's electricity were generated by nuclear power plants, the health risk would be equivalent to the risk faced by a regular smoker who smokes one extra cigarette every 10 years; or by an overweight person who increases his weight by 0.03 ounces; by crossing a street one extra time every 20 weeks; by increasing the national speed limit from 55 mph to 55.02; or by using a sub-compact car rather than a m id-size car one day every 10 years."

Radiobiology and gray science: flaws in landmark new radiation protections.

The International Commission on Radiological Protection--whose regularly updated recommendations are routinely adopted as law throughout the globe--recently issued the first-ever ICRP protections for the environment. These draft 2005 proposals are significant both because they offer the commission's first radiation protections for any non-human parts of the planet and because they will influenc...

Guidelines for Exposure Assessment in Health Risk Studies Following a Nuclear Reactor Accident

BACKGROUND Worldwide concerns regarding health effects after the Chernobyl and Fukushima nuclear power plant accidents indicate a clear need to identify short- and long-term health impacts that might result from accidents in the future. Fundamental to addressing this problem are reliable and accurate radiation dose estimates for the affected populations. The available guidance for activities fo...

Radiological protection from radioactive waste management in existing exposure situations resulting from a nuclear accident

In environmental remediation after nuclear accidents, radioactive wastes have to be appropriately managed in existing exposure situations with contamination resulting from the emission of radionuclides by such accidents. In this paper, a framework of radiation protection from radioactive waste management in existing exposure situations for application to the practical and reasonable waste manag...
